14th Continentals of 1775


Hitchcock's Regiment (14th Continentals) July - December 1775

Regiment raised in Providence County in May 1775. Originally co Originally contained eight musket companies, sixty officers and men each, plus regimental commander and staff. Later upped to ten musket companies for a regimental total of 610. In June marched to Jamaica Plains and was taken into Congressional service and pay. Regiment was made part of the brigade of Nathanael Greene. Men had enlisted to serve until 31 December 1775 at which time the unit was disbanded, although many officers and men volunteered for the new 11th Continentals.
