15th Continentals of 1775


Church's Regiment (15th Continentals) June - December 1775

Regiment was raised in Newport and Bristol Counties in May 1775. In June marched to Jamaica Plains, where it was made a part of Nathanael Greene's brigade and was taken into Congressional service and pay. Originally contained seven musket companies plus regimental commander and staff, upped to nine musket companies in late June. Each company authorized sixty officers and men. Total for the regiment 550. Men had enlisted to serve until 31 December at which time the unit disbanded, although many officers and men volunteered for the new 9th and 11th Continentals.
