Captain William Tew

William Tew, Captain 11th Continental Infantry, 1st January to 31st December, 1776; Captain 2nd Rhode Island, 1st January, 1777; retired 1st January, 1781. Captain Tew was a son of James and Anne (Arnold) Tew, of Newport. RI, and was born April 5, 1745. He married Sarah, daughter of Jonathan Wilson, and died Oct. 31, 1808. At the time of his death he was a member of the Legislature of Rhode Island, President of the Newport Town Council, and a member of the "Society of the Cincinnati." He followed the business of a clothier in Newport.
